The Donut Hole 2024 vs. 2025

The Inflation Reduction Act will bring significant changes to Medicare Part D in 2025, focusing on prescription drug costs and payment flexibility:

​

  • Lower Out-of-Pocket Maximum: The out-of-pocket limit for prescription drugs will drop from $8,000 in 2024 to $2,000.

  • Simplified Coverage Stages: The coverage stages will be streamlined to deductible, initial coverage, and catastrophic coverage, eliminating the previous "donut hole."

  • New Payment Plan: Medicare members can now spread out their prescription drug costs into monthly payments, although this plan doesn't reduce the overall cost of drugs.
